Irish invader hoping for successful day against Winx

-

– There will be an international flavour to Winx's next race start - the world's equalhighest-rated racehorse is set to run up against Irish invader Success Days in the $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m.

Better yet, the Ken Condontrained galloper will have the services of leading Hong Kong-based jockey Joao Moreira - as reported

Sydney

by the Press Association in Ireland - as he takes on Australian racing's heroine.

The visiting grey only arrived in Sydney recently, and was having a poke around at Canterbury yesterday morning to get his bearings.

Stephen McCarthy is chief caretaker and track rider for Condon's six-year-old entire in Sydney, and he told Racing NSW that while the trip took a toll on Success Days, he is acclimatising well so far.

"It was a long trip over but he took it well," McCarthy said. "He spent 16 days in Newmarket before he travelled and he hadn't seen another horse until he arrived here.

"He lost 10-12kg which is kind of the norm. He's putting it back on quickly and by the weekend he should be back to where he was."

Success Days' formlines do tie into Australian form via Johannes Vermeer, a horse he ran within 0.5-lengths of at The Curragh over 2000m in July last year - before the latter went on to place in each of the Caulfield Stakes, Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.

Condon's charge went on to win the Group 2 York Stakes over 2100m at his next start later in the month, before two failed attempts at Group 1 level later in the season.

His career record is 19 runs for six wins, four seconds and one third, but at Group 1 level, he has a best finish of third in the 2016 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh. He was fourth in the same race last year.

Success Days is a $34 chance to win the Queen Elizabeth, with Winx rated at $1.15. -
