Who would invest in this SA?

- Bryanston

You have to feel sorry for Cyril Ramaphosa who last week, with so much fanfare, announced that a team of four presidential envoys will travel the world to promote SA.

He then flew to London to attend the Commonwealth heads of government meeting and to try and sell the country as a top investment destination.

Unfortunately, a couple of days later he was forced to cut his trip short and fly back to SA to intervene and try to calm the residents of the town of Mahikeng in North West.

The area had erupted into flames by people being unhappy with the Premier Supra Mahumapelo, pictured, who theywanted to step down.

They went on a rampage, with businesses looted and vandalised and buildings – including a cultural centre – and cars torched.

Due to the havoc created, worried Botswana even closed its border with SA.

To top all this, a countrywide bus strike started with millions of commuters stranded and unable to go to work.

This was because the unions decided to reject an 8% increase and wanted 12% when inflation is down to 3.8%.

I wonder who in their right mind would want to put money in a country like ours when our labour laws make it impossible to fire workers and the unions dictate government policy.

Also, let us not forget the government wants to expropriate land without compensation. Jean Michel,
