It is a time which would normally be his best ever, but things are not as they should be for Patrick Mabedi (above) who was installed as Kaizer Chiefs coach earlier this week following Steve Komphela’s sudden resignation.

Mabedi took charge of a damaged team who just can’t seem to anything right these days and was greeted with a 3-1 beating at Golden Arrows in his first match on Wednesday night.

The former Amakhosi skipper said he would not be looking at the future for now as he focuses on getting a good finish for the embattled side.

“In football you don’t talk about the future. I always say only God knows about your future. My task is to go out there and do the job.

“I can’t make the call about my future. It is the people who assess my job who will be able to say I’m good or bad. I just have to do my job normally,” said Mabedi.

He will, however, be hoping for a better outing this afternoon when they host high flying Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium. The match starts at 3pm.

Mabedi slammed the Moses Mabhida Stadium incident and said it had affected the players more than anyone can imagine and getting them to forget about it would take some time.

The man who led Chiefs to two league titles during his playing days is focused on helping the club finish the season on a high.

“You can’t say you are going to change anything quickly. You need to adapt and go on.

“I think it was traumatic for the players. They were truly affected. I think we just need to accept what happened,” he added.

Both clubs are now fighting for a third-place finish which guarantees a Caf Confederation Cup spot next year.
