Serero on fire

-

Thulani Serero (above) scored another cracking goal for Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem this weekend, as they thrashed FC Twente 5-0 in the Eredivisie to seal a spot in the play-offs for next season’s Uefa Europa League. Serero opened the scoring in the 40th minute, firing into the top corner from outside the area. It was his second goal in three games for his club, after also scoring a fine goal in the 7-0 hammering of Sparta Rotterdam on April 14. Unfortunately Serero is unlikely to return for Bafana Bafana any time soon having been banned by the South African Football Association after Stuart Baxter accused him of not wanting to come to camp unless he was guaranteed playing time. Good news as Patosi to stay on

Phakaaathi has learnt that Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy had a long one-on-one talk with star midfielder Ayanda Patosi (above), and convinced him to stay on. Patosi was unhappy with certain things including McCarthy’s managerial style, but they ironed it out. “Patosi has pledged to work hard on getting to his best again. With (Teko) Modise unable to play four to five games in a row because of injury issues, McCarthy realised he needed Patosi more than he thought. He is the main playmaker in the side,” said a source. Nobody will leave, insists Davids

Maritzburg United will not sell any of their exciting players at the end of the season, according to their coach Fadlu Davids (above). Speaking after their match against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, Davids admitted there has been some interest in some of their players but insisted that none will be allowed to leave the club. Phakaaathi however understands that Mamelodi Sundowns will not back down on their interest in Siphesihle Ndlovu, who is among the players favoured by many for the Young Player-of-theSeason award. Pitso has the perfect remedy

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane (above) says the only way to silence his critics is by lifting trophies with the Brazilians. Mosimane hit out at SuperSport TV anchor Robert Marawa and analyst Farouk Khan, saying they have an agenda against him. “It is okay, it is part of those guys and they are forever coming at me. The only way to reply is to lift the trophies or it is going to go on and will never stop,” said the former African Coach-of-the-Year after winning a third league title with Masandawana.
