Jali on Pitso’s radar

- Jonty Mark

Pitso Mosimane says he is set to meet with Andile Jali about the possibility of signing him for Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Masandawana coach, however, says he will only sign the Bafana Bafana midfielder if he understands he will have to be a team player in the Sundowns squad.

Jali would be available for Sundowns to sign on a free transfer, after his Belgian side KV Oostende agreed to release the 28 year-old from his contract.

“I like him, he has got the right football attitude,” said Moismane yesterday.

“Andile is a tiger on the pitch ... he has that integrity and the winning culture.

“My challenge is, does he feel excited to play for Sundowns? Does he know he can be on the bench, because he is playing in (Tiyani) Mabunda’s and (Hlompho) Kekana’s space?”

“We have a meeting, once we tick the boxes, you know we have the signing. I also need to know if I can afford him.”

One player Sundowns have signed, Mosimane confirmed, is Guinea-Bissau winger Toni Silva.

The 24-year-old Silva seems likely to replace Khama Billiat in the Sundowns squad, with Mosimane saying he thinks the Zimbabwean will have to leave at the end of the season, once his contract is up.

“I don’t think Khama will stay,” said Mosimane.

“He is not renewing (his contract). But I am over that, I have accepted it … he gave us a good five years. Rumours are saying he is going to Azerbaijan, (to) Qarabag .. they have got a lot of oil there, it is a rich country. He must just say it properly and then we can give him a nice send off.”

Billiat is set to feature for Sundowns on Saturday, however, as they take on Wydad Casablanca at Loftus Versfeld to open their 2018 Caf Champions League group stage campaign.

Sundowns will be without the suspended Percy Tau for that match.
