Snapping through Cape Town
INSTA HOLIDAY: THE CITY IS THE IDEAL PLACE TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS
An opportunity to to turn the ordinary into art.
At the end of last year, Independent posted a somewhat scathing piece on the fact that when planning a holiday, Millennials think of Instagram first.
Basically, there is a generation of people that think of what they can post on social media – and how it will look – before the historical significance of the area or place they’re visiting.
The last (long) weekend of April just cemented the idea that more days off means more time to populate your Instagram feed.
Alone, and stuck at home, I voyeuristically lived through others’ Instagram experiences as they explored the country and one destination came up trumps – Cape Town.
Many assume that a weekend in Cape Town is an expensive ordeal, but in actual fact, as the temperature drops, so do the prices.
Part of this is due to less international guests roaming around – which makes it easier for South Africans to get the best shots and the best deals.
One of the greatest deals to spend a weekend in Cape Town this winter is through low-cost airline Kulula.
The Kulula Holidays packages offer hotel accommodation and return tickets to Cape Town International Airport for South Africans at under R3 000.
But these weekend getaways come with the responsibility of taking some really good snapshots of your weekend away, where you
turn the ordinary into art.
Daréll Lourens, the woman behind the blog thegoodholiday.com and a Capetonian says there are a few important places you need to visit in your limited time.
“Late afternoon aim for Bloubergstrand. Here you can take the stereotypical postcard snapshot of Table mountain, but the sunset is breathtaking,” she says.
One of Lourens’s other tips is to visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Except for the plants and horticulture, the gardens also offer amazing sights. Edited by
