All set for Kranji’s great G1 day

– It took some juggling of dates and a bold move to open the Kranji Mile to international entries, but the effort has certainly paid dividends with the stand-alone meeting tomorrow getting worldwide attention as for the first time in the Singapore Turf Club’s history three Group 1s take place on one race day.

While the Lion City Cup and the Singapore Guineas look terrific races on paper and could carry a meeting in their own right, the $1.5 million Kranji Mile with three international entries

Singapore

is the one to watch.

Hong Kong runners will again be the major players in the feature with Caspar Fownes saddling the likely favourite SOUTHERN LEGEND while Tony Millard puts the finishing touches on HORSE OF FORTUNE.

Of the two, SOUTHERN LEGEND easily has the best recent form under his belt and the fact his trainer has won three International Group 1s in Singapore makes him the horse to beat.

OCEAN EMPEROR represents New Zealand and given he brings winning Group form over 1600m at his most recent start; he will have admirers and could spoil the Fownes party.

We can’t forget the local runners including CIRCUIT LAND, INFANTRY and ELITE EXCALIBUR who finished first, second and third respectively in the Chairman’s Trophy while VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL at his Singapore debut could be the wildcard.

Best Bets: (SOUTHERN LEGEND Race 9, Win), (CHARGER Race 4, value) and (TWICKENHAM Race 10, value).

Jackpot - R126: Race 7 (1, 4 and 15), Race 8 (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 15 and 16), Race 9 (1) and Race 10 (1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 12).
