RALLYING CRY: NEW CEO SITHOLE NEEDS SUPPORT ON SALVAGE MISSION

-

‘We are not alone. Most state-owned enterprises are going through turmoil.’

The board of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) is urging all staff and management to give the newly appointed group chief executive all the support he needs during this challenging period.

Yesterday, Prasa announced Sibusiso Sithole as its new group chief executive on a 12-month contract, effective from June 1.

Sithole took over from Cromet Molepo, who had been the acting group chief executive since December 2017.

Board chairperson Khanyisile Kweyama said: “Mr Sithole is quite aware of the immense challenges facing the organisation.

“Prasa is at its worst performance levels and the public that we serve expect the organisation to turn itself around.

“We cannot overemphasise what our expectation as a board is from the CEO.

“Fortunately, with the kind of experience he has, we should not expect he will have any difficulty in executing the task at hand.”

Prasa said it had appointed Sithole to bring stability and certainty to the embattled stateowned rail agency.

Addressing senior executives, Sithole said he was sensitive to the issues affecting the organisation, adding that Prasa was not alone, as most state-owned enterprises were currently going through turmoil.

He emphasised the need for Prasa and its employees to be cognisant of the role played by the organisation, namely delivering to the poorest of the poor who rely on rail for transport.

He expressed confidence in Prasa employees and their ability to rise to the occasion. – ANA
