A stretch of body and soul
YOGA WORKSHOPS: THIS MONTH IN JOBURG
Ishana Maharaj will discuss sophrology, a method of dealing with stress via breathing techniques.
The International Day of Yoga (June 21), unanimously declared in 2015 by the UN General Assembly, is looming and should not be missed. If you are in Joburg leading up to the day of Yoga there are two reasons to start stretching.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA
The consulate general of India in Johannesburg is hosting a free event at Wanderers Stadium on June 16.
Hosted by Yoga Works, it’s open to anyone interested in starting yoga, but regular yogis won’t leave disappointed.
On the day, there will be several group yoga sessions and workshops that will be accessible to everyone. There will also be a children’s programme. Vendors will be selling healthy foods and drinks, yoga clothing and props and eco-friendly lifestyle items. This will be a green, eco-conscious event with an aim to tread lightly on the environment.
You can also support the event by doing the 108 Sun Salutation Challenge (donation of R108) to sponsor yourself or someone else to participate. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Dlala Nje, a community centre aimed at providing a safe learning environment for children and young people. Dlala Nje challenges perceptions and creates opportunities in areas like Hillbrow through inner-city immersion experiences. Although attendance is free on the day, registration is required.
