Ace in danger of being trumped

-

As the ANC tries to move away from poor leadership, factionalism and gatekeeping of the past decade in both the party and the state, there is one man who is central to whether the party sheds its bad image tag – Ace Magashule.

Ace, pictured, was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Zuma era, so much so that he was instrumental in the formation of the collapsed premier league clique. His friend, Supra Mahumapelo, is out in the cold and his friend turned nemesis DD Mabuza has publicly pledged his support for Cyril Ramaphosa.

Now, that leaves Magashule isolated with deputy Jessie Duarte, as the known pro-Zuma supporters in the top six. If the ANC has any hope of being unified ahead of the 2019 general elections, its SG should come to the party and stop playing divisive politics using his office in Sauer Street. He allowed the aborted KZN conference to go ahead with a lot of issues outstanding, and the Free State conference was said to be engineered to be a no-contest to ensure the faction aligned to him comes on top.

Now the question for ANC members across the country: is Ace good or bad for the future of the ANC? Kiekie Mboweni
