Sommersonne to shine in the wet Cape

-

Ken Nicol

Sommersonne stayed on nicely a few weeks ago on her first experience of soft going and should exit the maiden ranks in Race 3 at Kenilworth tomorrow.

This daughter of Silvano has improved with racing, as his progeny often do, and got within a neck of After Glow last time.

She now goes over 200m further with stable jockey Richard Fourie back aboard and is in a pretty average eight-horse party.

Main threat will come from the other highest rated fillies Bell Jar and Royal Kiss.

Another female with solid winning prospects is StraatKind in Race 6.

Ryan Munger, is aboard, and does not come to Cape Town too often but should have a good day on this occasion.

In Race 7 he appeals strongly on Chatuchak, also for Nel. This three-year-old Tiger Ridge colt is as reliable as they come with his only unplaced run being when outclassed in the Winter Guineas.

Chatuchak has scored both his wins over 1600m at Kenilworth and has a great chance of making it three wins in this MR 78 contest.

The main threats look to be Flash Twice, who would have needed his latest run after a long break. He was at his best at this time last year on soft going and could be something of a surprise package at longish odds; as well as the Justin Snaith entry Jailhouse Rock and the ultraconsistent Spectra Force.
