An auction of South African art, furniture, collectables, estate jewellery and watches will take place on Saturday, June 30 at 10am in Colbyn, Pretoria.
It starts with a selection of silver objects and hollowware, including perfume and scent bottles, pill and trinket boxes manufactured and retailed by the bespoke London designer and retailer, Ari D Norman.
There are also dressing table appointments, magnifying glasses, jewellery and pin boxes as well as a gentleman’s rosewood walking cane.
Glass, crystal and paperweights are a highlight with a pair of Stourbridge “Dragon” glass vases, Isle of Wight scent bottles, Art Deco flash-cut decanters, tray and shot glasses, Italian Murano glass and Czech crystal pieces, a pair of Doulton Lambeth Stoneware mantle vases and a rare Carltonware “Devil Border” espresso/mocha set.
Furniture and embellishments follow with a scarce Voortrekker yellowwood kinderkis, Victorian shaving and toilet mirrors, German christoleums, French Napoleon III figural two-light candelabra, a Louis XV style armoire a’ bijoux, Vernis-Martin styled display cabinets, HMV gramophones, a pair of Corinthian ‘Verde Antico’
marble pedestal columns, vintage enamel advertising signs, an Austrian regulator wall clock and a Dutch Friesse Staartklok will all compliment a classical or modernist interior.
The session concludes with estate jewellery, wrist and pocket-watches featuring a fine Austrian hand-made ladies 22 carat gold link bracelet, two men’s IWC Schaffhausen 18 carat gold wristwatches, a Probus full Hunter pocket watch and various gemstone-set rings.
The second session at midday features 100 lots of South African old master and contemporary art and sculpture, highlighted by the works of Walter Battiss, Hanneke Benade, Adriaan Boshoff, Errol Boyley, Carl Buchner, Frans Claerhout, Tinus de Jongh, Zakkie Eloff, Titta Fasciotti, Irmin Henkel, Maggie Laubser, Dzunisani Maluleke, Mizraim Maseko, Erich Mayer, Joseph Muzondo, Christiaan Nice, Nicho Phuti, JH Pierneef, Nico Roos, Maud Sumner, Marie Vermeulen-Breedt, Diane Victor and JEA Volschenk.
