FEMALE FELONS: IT’S PAYOUT AND PAYBACK TIME

- Kgosi Modisane

Eight women, $150 million, one robbery.

Returning to the big screen, award-winning actress (and one of my top five actresses of all time) Sandra Bullock and her all-female crew pull off the biggest jewellery robbery ever in Oceans 8.

Starring as Debbie Ocean, Bullock plays the younger sister of Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and she’s the mastermind behind planning one of the biggest jewellery robberies of modern times.

With trusted cohort Lou (played by Cate Blanchett), the two set out to rob the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York on the night of the annual MET Gala, a seemingly impossible task.

Debbie, who was framed for a crime by her ex-husband and served time, spent five years, eight months and 12 days working out and planning how to execute the heist.

But it’s clear this job needs the help of the world’s best female criminal squad.

In the team Debbie and her partner-in-crime Lou assemble are jeweller Amita played by Mandy Kaling, street-con Constance (Awkwafina), suburban mother Tammy (Sarah Paulson), hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna) and fashion

designer Rose (Helena Bonham Carter).

Their target – a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million.

Self-centered Hollywood actress Daphne Kruger (Anne Hathaway) jumps onboard as an alibi when international fraud specialist (James Corden) is sent in to investigate the robbery.

Debbie Ocean, meanwhile, manages to manipulate the evidence to implicate her ex-husband in the crime to settle the score between them once and for all.

All said, it’s a gripping action, thriller, comedy and crime movie rolled into one.
