Eat Out is an authoritative guide in SA – from leading chefs to restaurants you need to be seen. But while reading and fantasising about experiencing the food from SA’s Top 10 Chefs is one thing – you can now add your voice in the world of Eat Out.

Jumping from the glossy pages of the magazine is the new Eat Out app, launched this month, where if you consider yourself a foodie and want to share good food and experiences, you now have the opportunity to.

There’s more to this app, though. Now any person with a smartphone can discover, book and review more than 6 000 restaurants in South Africa.

For a first-release app, there’s remarkably few glitches, and playing on it proves that it fills a void in terms of diners who want to step out of Spur and into other restaurants.

Thanks to geo-tagging, the app also picks up places around you – showing you which are bookable, which have specials, as well as the most popular. It means the app has more value in urban areas, where there’s more dining options, but it also offers a simple way to overview your options.

Users can also search different areas, or specific cuisine types.

The function to make bookings directly on the app to eat at signed-up restaurants is also streamlined. This enables users to receive reminder e-mails and notifications. The app was developed by a team of senior software developers from Naspers, led by product specialist Evan Person.
