Ajax Cape Town announced yesterday Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro (left) had left the club.

Ndoro signed for Ajax in January, but has been at the centre of a controversy that has, at least for now, seen the Urban Warriors relegated from the Absa Premiership. Ajax broke Fifa rules by fielding Ndoro when he had already played for two other clubs – Orlando Pirates and Al Faisaly of Saudi Arabia – in the same season.

Ajax initially finished 15th in the Absa Premiership, meaning they were supposed to play in the relegation/promotion playoffs, but the South African Football Association announced they would be automatically relegated to the National First Division (NFD) af- ter arbitrator William Mokhari docked them points for games in which Ndoro played against Platinum Stars, Polokwane City and SuperSport United.

Ajax are trying to get Mokhari’s decision overturned in court.

“Ndoro’s contract was up for renewal at the end of (June); however the club have opted not to extend his stay at Ikamva,” read a statement yesterday on the official website. “The club would like to wish Tendai all the best and thank him for his services.”

Meanwhile, former SuperSport United striker Phumelele Bhengu believes greedy agents almost killed his career with their ridiculous demands whenever they negotiated with possible employers, writes Sibongiseni Gumbi.

So the 28-year-old now manages himself, although he admits it is harder than he anticipated.

“All these people care about is what they will get out of a deal. They don’t care about your wellbeing or if you will fit in that particular team.

“My career has stagnated because of such decisions,” he told Phakaaathi yesterday.

Bhengu was at NFD side Real Kings last season but feels he has unfinished business in the top flight. “There is a lot I want to achieve. I owe it to myself to be top goal scorer in the top flight.”
