It’s My Turn shortens for the July

-

The final field for the Vodacom Durban July will be announced today. Racing fans around the country will be sitting on tenterhooks as they wait to find out whether their fancy will be among the final 18 runners for this R4.25-million race over 2200m at Greyville on Saturday 7 July.

One of the biggest movers in the betting has been It’s My Turn, who has been slashed from 75-1 to 33-1 following his timely win in Saturday’s Derby. Some observers had expected Betting World to react even more sharply given Dean Kannemeyer’s record in the race of three wins.

Kannemeyer has left the decision of whether It’s My Turn will run in the Durban July up to owner Fred Crabbia. While an impressive winner of Saturday’s Derby over 2400m at Scottsville, that was his first win since January 2016 when he captured the Investec Derby (Grade 1) at Kenilworth.

Mike de Kock appears to have scratched Cascapedia from the race but has put stable jockey on both Yakeen and Royal Crusade in the hope one of them, at least, gets in.

In other recent jockey moves Bernard Fayd’Herbe has been declared aboard Elusive Silva for the Justin Snaith yard with Jeff Lloyd, who arrives in the country today, slated to ride Made To Conquer for the Snaiths.

Perovskia has been marked out from 75-1 to as much as 125-1 in the last few days but Harold Crawford is confident about his Drill Hall Stakes winner being ready in time to become his first July runner in 42 years as a trainer.

Betting World’s betting on the Vodacom Durban July: 18-10 African Night Sky; 13-2 Do It Again; 9-1 Majestic Mambo; 12-1 Made To Conquer; 14-1 Elusive Silva; 17-1 Abashiri; 20-1 Dark Moon Rising, Tilbury Fort, White River; 25-1 Platinum Prince, Yakeen, Pack Leader, Coral Fever; 33-1 Royal Crusade, It's My Turn; 35-1 and upwards other
