All to race for at Zwartkops

BRAZIL: WINNERS OF SEVERAL RACES WILL GET TO COMPETE IN GRAND FINALS IN BRAZIL

Micro Max and Mini Max victors will win tickets to attend the Brazil meeting in November.

The Zwartkops Internatio­nal Kart Raceway will host a double-header this weekend, boasting local and national competitio­n. Run by the Rand Kart Club, the events will be topped by Sunday’s Rotax Max African Open wildcard meeting, preceded by round four of the 2018 Gauteng Northern Regions Championsh­ip.

Sunday’s African Open races will see the winners of the senior and high-school classes secure drives in the Rotax Max Grand Finals at the Circuito Internacio­nal Paladino in Conde, Brazil, at the end of November.

The winners of Junior Max, Senior Max, DD2 and the DD2 Master Classes will all get to drive in the Grand Final, while the winners of Micro Max and Mini Max will earn tickets to attend the event.

With such prizes at stake, racers from all over the country will take to the Zwartkops tarmac.

Heading up both days will be races for gearbox DD2 karts with top contenders to include Gauteng’s Bradley Liebenberg, Eugene Brittz, Arnold Neveling, Ivana Cetinich, Brandon Smith, Roman de Beer and Jordan North.

Cape drivers will be the likes of Jurie Swart, Jason Coetzee, Jonathan Thomas, Sebastian Boyd and Luke Herring, while the KZN contingent will be led by Benjamin Habig and Dan Duminy.

The action should be just as intense among the DD2 Master drivers, where experience­d Michael Stephen, world champion Cristiano Morgado, Richard Fuller, Philippe Chapat and Pascal Acquaah should be the men to beat.

Top contenders in the Rotax Senior Max category must include current points leader Nicholas Verheul, Wayland Wyman, Shannon Jackson, Liam Pienaar, Jason Coetzee, Andrew Rackstraw, Reece Oellerman, Cristiano Morgado and Dominic Lincoln

The Junior Max High School category will star Gauteng’s Aqil Alibhai, Kwanda Mokoena, Daniele Patrizi, Jarrod Waberski, Leyton Fourie and Jayden Els, versus Capetonian­s Joseph Oelz, Charl Visser, Troy Dolinschek, Kai van Zijl, Tate Bishop and Simon Simpson-Heath.

In the primary school categories Jordan Brooks and Joshua de Paiva will continue their under-13 Mini Max Gauteng title battle with Josh le Roux, Mathew Morrell, Jayden Goosen and Mandla Mlangeni, interspers­ed with Western Province drivers like of Kyle Visser,

Mikhail Fernandez, Joaquin de Oliveira, plus brothers Andre and Kyle le Riche.

The final Rotax class will see under-11 Micro Max action involving Jozi’s Joshua de Paiva, Muhammed Wally, Mohammed Moerat, KC Ensor Smith, Luviwe Sambudla and Kyle Beukes. Chasing them will be Capetonian­s Reese Koorzen, Reza Levy, Joshua Smit, Ethan Stier, Paul Malcolm and Mischa Williams, with all of them out to win that first ticket to the Rotax Grand Finals.

The Internatio­nal Kart Raceway is located behind the Zwartkops Raceway’s main circuit pits on the R55 just outside Laudium, Pretoria.
