Ferraris’ raider to scoop the Million

Gauteng raider Romany Prince, out of the Ormond Ferraris stable, could be up to the task on grass at Greyville tomorrow when teamed up with in-form jockey Warren Kennedy in a highly competitive Race 7, the KZN Breeders Million Mile, a Non-Black-Type contest over 1600m for KZN-bred threeyear-old and older horses.

This five-year-old has been threatening a seventh career win in his last three outings at Turffontein where he took on tough company. He stayed on well when finishing third in a 2000m MR 104 Handicap, which he followed up with a game second in a 1600m Pinnacle Stakes.

The gelding’s subsequent run when partnered by an apprentice and finishing fifth out of 13 in a Grade 3 contest over 1800m is best overlooked, as he made headway from last after a slow start and there was also report that he was not ridden out in the final stages of the race. With a good inside draw this time he could have the edge.

Another Gauteng raider who must be respected is Gary Alexander-trained six-time winner Unagi with Mark Khan up. This four-year-old surprised in his penultimate outing when finishing third and lengths ahead of fifthplaced Romany Prince in a Grade 1 contest. However, the tables were turned on Unagi in his subsequent outing when Romany Prince was a runner-up in a 1600m Pinnacle Stakes while Unagi was a further 4.5 lengths adrift in third place.

Best of the others are Dawn Calling, Africa Rising, Scrabble and London Call.

The other eight races on the card will be run on the Polytrack where Glen Kotzen-trained Majestica should get punters away to winning start in Race 1, a 1200m Juvenile Plate (Fillies). She was heavily backed last time when a runner-up on the Polytrack, but returned speedy-cut. She should have recovered from that injury and is unlikely to miss this time.

Tarry-trained Against The Grain looks a good bet in Race 2, a 1200m Juvenile Plate. This colt comes off an inspiring run on debut when running on stoutly from last after an untidy start and finishing second out of 12. With the experience gained from that run and having the advantage of the best draw, he should go one better.

Two-time winner Kateecador, out of Gavin van Zyl’s stable, looks the one to follow in Race 3, a 1200m contest for fillies and mares.

Race 4, should see Ivan Mooretrained two-time winner Unbelievable Lad come to light again in a 1200m contest. The three-yearold ran on strongly last time when snatching victory over the course and distance.
