-

make as many sandwiches as possible in 67 min and donate a blanket.

Buoyed by the phenomenal success of the Mandela Day Sandwich Run in 2016 and 2017, Flamingo Casino in Kimberley is doing it again this year with the help of Meals on Wheels.

Companies and individuals are called upon to rally their troops and bring along some sandwich goodies and loads of good cheer for this year’s Sandwich Run to commemorate Mandela Day on July 18.

The challenge is to make as many sandwiches as possible in 67 minutes – and have some fun.

Meals on Wheels encourages people attending the event to also bring along a blanket to donate to the cause. All these will be distributed by Meals on Wheels, along with the sandwiches, to charity organisations around Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

The event has grown in the past three years, with the community supporting it fully.

In 2016, 4 121 sandwiches were made in 67 minutes and last year 6 189 sandwiches were made and distributed to the community.

The Flamingo Casino Sandwich Run coincides with International Mandela Day in celebration of his birthday.

The Sandwich Run will start at 10am.

Flamingo Casino’s resident DJ, Bizzy B from Hive Entertainment, will make sure the event is funfilled and full of smiles.

“We call on our community to once again come down to support our Mandela Day Sandwich Run. We would love to see us beat the number of sandwiches made in 2017,” says Rene Scholtz, public relations and promotions manager at Flamingo Casino.

“All you need to give is some bread, some spreads and your time. As always, it promises to be a spirited event. We all work side by side to butter some bread and fill some sandwiches to fill some tummies and spread some smiles.”
