Weak favourite leads tricky start to massive Pick 6 MEGAPOOL.

The Grade 3 DStv Gold Vase over a marathon 3000m opens up the Pick 6 on Vodacom July Day, with the MEGAPOOL expected to reach a mind boggling R13 million.

It’s a tricky start to proceedings though, and a narrow first choice would be Alyson Wright’s three-year-old filly Flichity By Farr. She has placed at Graded level up to 2450m in her last two starts, and gives every indication that this type of trip will be within her compass.

This daughter of Go Deputy has won twice at Greyville, and with a mere 53kg and about-to-be champion jockey Lyle Hewitson aboard has definite winning prospects, even against males.

Her Betting World odds of 15-1 at the time of writing seem generous, and she is worth an Eachway dabble.

Top weight It’s My Turn is a weak favourite, and after his convincing Grade 3 Track and Ball Derby win a fortnight ago can be counted extremely unlucky not to have made the final field for the Vodacom July itself.

He also tries the trip for the first time, but has every chance of getting the extra, and with Anton Marcus back up should be right there again.

Stable companion Mr Winsome has to be a contender as well. While yet to convince he stays this far, he is 4kg better off with It’s My Turn after being beaten 2.25 lengths in the Derby, which has to bring him into the play.

Gauteng raider Let It Rain has no stamina doubts whatsoever, and is a serious contender. He has won Stakes races over marathon trips this season at three different tracks, using front running tactics to great effect.

He was third in the Gold Cup last year on his only previous visit to Greyville. From the No 1 draw Aldo Domeyer can be expected to set a decent gallop, and is quite capable of stealing this if allowed too much leeway.

Cool Chardonnay, One Man Show, and Forafewdollarsmore are worth considering for the upset, while the returning Jeff Lloyd on Hero Quest for Brett Crawford is bound to have his supporters as well.
