Dawnbreaker to show the way at Fairview

- Viv Greybe

Four-year-old Dawnbreaker, who has been a model of consistency since joining Gavin Smith’s stable, looks on target for a fourth career win at the Fairview Polytrack today when teamed up with Aldo Domeyer in Race 6, a MR 86 Handicap over 1300m.

This son of Trippi has not been out of the money in his seven runs since being gelded and stepping out for Smith. He was an encouraging second on grass at Fairview over 1200m and then justified favouritism with a resounding win on the Polytrack over the same distance.

Stepped up in class next time he was a bold runner-up in a 1200m MR 80 Handicap. His next mission was the WSB Polytrack Challenge which saw him finish fourth over 1200m and fourth over 1400m. Then in the final Leg of the Challenge when going off at long odds, he led throughout over 1600m and won decisively from his stablemate Breakfast Club.

Dawnbreaker held form well at the venue in his subsequent outing when finishing a creditable third to his classy stablemate Juan Two Three in a tough 1200m Pinnacle Stakes. This gelding will enjoy the extra distance this time and, with top-flight Aldo Domeyer up, the combination should be in the winner’s enclosure.

However, expect a bold bid from Yvette Bremner-trained twotime winner Pacific Spirit who will have Lyle Hewitson aboard and has the advantage of the best draw.

Also to be respected is fivetime winner Breakfast Club with the stable’s front-line jockey Greg Cheyne in the saddle and Valentinik, Prince Of Orange and Lord Marshal.
