Mogapi chases deal

-

A source at new National First Division side Maccabi FC reports former Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United leftback Tumelo Mogapi is trying to revive his career and has been training with the NFD side for some time now. Mogapi, who last played for the Team of Choice has found it difficult to find a new club. “He has been training with the guys, he looks sharp and doesn’t really show he has not been playing competitive football for a long time. He works hard at training and shows he is really eager to get a contract. I am not sure whether they will sign him, but his experience will be vital for the club if they decide to do so,” said the source. Bucs bid farewell to Mthiyane

Orlando Pirates have handed Nkosinathi Mthiyane (above) his clearance and gave him their blessings to find employment elsewhere. The leftback spent last season on loan at Chippa United but didn’t make much headway with the coaches there preferring Phetso Maphanga and Paseka Mako. “Pirates handed him his clearance after he agreed to have his contract terminated. He is still looking through offers and Chippa have also said they would like to have him back,” said a source. Chippa have one leftback, the inexperienced Ntwenhle Zondo, signed from NFD team Uthongathi. Arubi to be Williams understudy

News reaching Phakaaathi is that newly recruited SuperSport United goalkeeper Washington Arubi (above) is ready for a backseat role at the club after dumping National First Division side Stellenbosch United for the capital city club, in a move that a source described as a “retirement package” for Arubi at United. Arubi is 32 years old and is expected to live in the shadow of first-choice goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. With current reserve goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse rumoured to be on his way out of the club, Arubi is expected to assume the role of second choice between the sticks. Davids pleased with new duo

Maritzburg United added two players to their squad last week, as they announced the signings of midfielder Keagan Buchanan and defender Denwin Farmer (above). This adds fuel to the notion that instead of selling off their best players, United are intent on strengthening to build on a season where they finished fourth in the Absa Premiership and reached the Nedbank Cup final. “I think Keagan will give us adifferent dimension in midfield, he will complement well our playing style,” United coach Fadlu Davids was quoted as saying by their official Twitter account.
