Skipper Furman and his team back Tembo to get the job

SuperSport United management may be out and about scouting for a coach, but the players are full of support for caretaker-coach Kaitano Tembo, club captain Dean Furman (right) says.

Tembo has been in charge of Matsatsantsa’s dugout since March when Eric Tinkler tendered his resignation following a string of bad results. About two weeks into pre-season, United are still looking for Tinkler’s replacement.

“From our point of view as players, we are fully behind Kaitano, he is our coach. When he took over the club towards the end of the season he really helped us turn it around and helped us move away from the danger zone,” Furman told Phakaaathi.

“We have a lot to thank him for. He took over and is continuing where he left off now in pre-season and we are fully behind his ideas,” the Bafana Bafana international added.

United have so far recruited Washington Arubi, James Keene and Luke Fleurs, a trio Furman expects to hit the ground running.

“They don’t need much introduction, they know exactly what they are here to do and they know how to go about their business. I am sure they can do really well without too much of a talking to.”

SuperSport are also caught up in the Tendai Ndoro saga, as their top-eight status hangs in the balance following judge Denise Fisher ruling to reinstate Ajax Cape Town to 15th place, which would mean United are kicked out of the top-eight.

However, come what may, Furman is ready.

“We are kind of watching from afar as to what will happen and we are preparing for both eventualities. If we end up in the MTN8, it is ours at the moment and we will look to push all the way and try to defend it.

“If we are not in the MTN8, then the most important thing would be to shift our focus to the Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup and also try to do better in the league,” said Furman.
