Senong bemoans his side’s bad luck

COACH: WE HAVE TO CONTINUE GIVING THE BOYS CONFIDENCE

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

He is confident of coming back home with the spoils.

Following their goalless draw with Malawi in the third round, first leg of the Caf Under-20 Afcon final qualiying match at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday, Amajita coach Thabo Senong reckoned luck was not on their side, having created a number of goalscoring chances without hitting the back of the net.

Senong went into the game with the same line-up that drew 3-3 with Zambia a fortnight ago. However, his charges were not sharp enough in front of goal this time around. Senong was happy, however, that they did not concede any goals.

“We would have loved to score, but unfortunately we could not. We have a lot of work to do when we get to Malawi. The game is not over yet, we just have to go to Malawi, concentrate, be solid and make sure we don’t concede, create chances and make sure we score goals,” said the Amajita coach.

“Nothing went wrong, because we did not concede any goals and we had moments where we dominated the game and created chances, it is just that luck was not on our side.”

Ahead of the second leg in Ma- lawi this weekend, Senong says he will have to work hard with his players at training and try to improve on their finishing and instil confidence in the team to try and get a positive result away from home. However, he is confident his charges will be able to get a victory away from home, having done well in the past when playing outside the country.

“We just have to continue giving the boys confidence and we will continue working on creating chances in training just to increase the confidence of the team,” he added.

“It is another 90 minutes away from home, and we invariably score and defend well when we play away from home. So I have no doubts at all that we will do well in Malawi.”

The team is expected to depart for Malawi sometime this week. And should Amajita manage to get a victory, they will qualify for the 2019 Caf Under-20 Afcon which will be staged in Niger from February 24 to March 10.
