Beemer fest at the Big Z
BRIDGESTONE TRACK AND RACE DAY: CATERS FOR OFFICIAL RACES AND OPEN TIME TRIALS
Paulo Loureiro and Antoine Marx share top spot on the leaders’ table.
The Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series will visit the Zwartkops Raceway, near Pretoria, on Saturday, with the venue to host round five of their championship.
Officially dubbed the Bridgestone Track and Race Day, hosted by Auto Alpina Boksburg, the event will see the contenders locked in a close fight for overall championship positions.
Currently, the top five are covered by a mere 10 points in the overall season title fight.
Class B leader, Paulo Loureiro (BMW E36 M3 GTS) and Antonie Marx (Class C BMW E46 M3), are tied on points at the top of the championship ladder.
Only two points behind them is class D leader, Alan Hilligenn (BMW E36 328i) with Warren Dodd (Class D BMW E90 330i) fourth and Neil Reynolds (Class D BMW E36 M3) fifth.
Others to watch include Willie Erasmus (Class B BMW E46 M3 GTR), David Coetzee (BMW E36 328i Turbo), Rick Loureiro (BMW E30 325is), Oz Biagioni (BMW E46 M3), Renier Smith (BMW E36 M3) and Craig Ball (BMW E36 M3).
> As in the past, the event will cater for both official racing and time trials open to all vehicles.
The action will kick off at 8am with a first practice session for Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series competitors, followed by several time trial sessions.
At 11am the racers will tackle official qualifying, with their first race at 12.50pm.
After the race it will be lunch and an opportunity for Auto Alpina Boksburg to do a parade showcasing some of the latest BMW models on track. After lunch the time trial sessions will resume at 1.50pm until the second race of the day at 3.50pm.
Thereafter the track will be opened to all cars entered on the day for a 60-minute, light permitting open session until close at around 5.30pm.
While the Bridgestone Time Trial Series invites all makes of car and all levels of drivers to try their hand at the best possible lap time it is a requirement that drivers hold an MSA circuit licence and vehicles are trackworthy.
Spectator entry is free and everybody will be welcome in the pits.
As in the past, spectators will have the opportunity to go for a fast lap in the Bridgestone Hot Lap vehicles driven by a professional drivers for just R150.
They will also be able to see the latest BMW models on display by Auto Alpina Boksburg and purchase BMW Lifestyle and BMW Car Club clothing and accessories.
Food and refreshments will be on sale throughout the day.
