The trainer-jockey partnership of Yvette Bremner and Ryan Munger carries a strong hand into today’s race meeting at Fairview.

The duo team up with Gimme The Stars in the day’s feature event, Race 7, the Friendly City Stakes – named after Port Elizabeth – and have an excellent chance of landing the spoils.

Gimme The Stars has a record of six wins from 23 starts and is reaching his career peak as he turns five-years-old next week.

This son of Gimmethegreenlight won over this track and trip two runs back, easily overpowering a MR 92 field when carrying 60kg. The handicapper’s penalty pushed him up to a mark of 97, meaning he had to carry a hefty 63kg next time out.

He struggled with that burden over 1600m and finished fourth, lacking a finishing kick but still getting to 1.80 lengths of the winner.

This time he carries 57kg over 1800m and, with a No 4 draw, should be in the reckoning.

Justin Snaith’s charge Sabbatical will be a challenger – as will top-weight Stormy Eclipse and bottom-weight Western Wu.

Bremner and Munger could visit the winner’s circle earlier – with Coal in Race 4, a 1200m Maiden Plate.

This two-year-old gelding made a good debut three weeks ago, finishing third in a 1000m contest after being slowly away and racing greenly. He will have learnt a lot from that effort.

Bremner saddles three runners in Race 8, a MR 66 Handicap.

From the trio, Munger has chosen to ride Highland Captain, so that might be the stable elect. However, recent debut winner Gun Hill, with Craig Zackey aboard, will give his stablemate some cheek.
