Street Fighting Richard Fourie gets on top again
CAPE COMBINATION NOTCHES UP ANOTHER TREBLE
Kenilworth meeting produces a mixed bag of results.
The Justin Snaith-Richard Fourie combination continued to roll over the opposition at Kenilworth on Saturday, adding another treble to take their tally together for the season to nine in a mere three Cape meetings.
Street Fighting Man got up on the post for Fourie in the last race after turning for home near the rear to complete the hat-trick on the day.
He had also scored on bottom weighted filly Angel’s Trumpet in the main event - a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m.
Relatively well weighted due to her sex allowance, the Querari filly took over 350m out and won full of running.
“She enjoys the soft, and I fancied her a bit today”, said Snaith, with Fourie adding: “she won very well and is a nice filly”
After running on strongly on debut Bunker Hunt always looked the best bet on the day, and duly obliged when winning Race 3 comfortably.
“This could be a really nice horse for Sabine Plattner, and worth watching in the coming Cape season,” Snaith said post-race.
His conqueror in the maidens Elusive Trader then franked the form further by scoring fluently in Race 4, a MR 74 Handicap over 1000m.
Debutante Secret Depths turned out to be aptly named when running on strongly from stone last to win Race 2. This Elusive Fort filly paid R107 a tote win, and trainer Mike Robinson said he was “in shock – she hasn’t shown much”. Breeder and partowner Peter de Beyer concurred, saying he was “gobsmacked”.
Perhaps most impressive though was Andre Nel's Querari colt Pleasedtomeetyou. He led virtually from the jump in the opening event, and recorded the quickest time of the three 1000m races.
Nel was unsure about the quality of the opposition, but conceded the winner is "a nice colt, who is very professional in his work".
