Indie pop-rock icons The Cure will headline next year’s Rock On The Lawns music festivals in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The British band, pictured, is considered to be one of the greatest rock acts in the world.

With a catalogue spanning 40 years, The Cure, fronted by Robert Smith, will perform at the Festival Lawns at Carnival City, east of Johannesburg on March 16, and at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on March 21.

Some of the many artists and bands confirmed for the event include Fokofpolisiekar, Karen Zoid, Zebra & Giraffe, Ard Matthews, Opposite The Other, Southern Wild, Hellcats, and The Robfather (DJ).

The Cure first performed in 1978 and have since then released 37 singles including Friday I’m In Love, Lullaby, Close To Me, Love Song, Boys Don’t Cry, The Lovecats, Let’s Go To Bed, Just Like Heaven and many more.

The five-member band is only playing at select events around the world as part of their 40-year anniversary tour.

The Rock On The Lawns music festival will be the first ever performances in South Africa by the British band, and festivalgoers are in for a real treat, as the band is planning a twohour-plus, career spanning fan-favourites from their incredible catalogue.

AMP Events founder Andy Mac said: “This is the second Rock On The Lawns festival experience we’ve created in South Africa.

“It’s a fantastic day out with your mates enjoying great bars, great food and of course, world-class live artists.

“All this in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

“The Cure has been very high on my list of acts to bring to fans here [in South Africa] for a long time, and I’m delighted that we’ve finally managed to make it happen,” he added.
