Hemero to crown her efforts

TOUGH COMPETITION BUT COULD ALL BE RUNNING FOR SECOND

- Ken Nicol

Richard Fourie causes poser for punters.

Mike Robinson’s highly progressive filly Hemero looks the one they all have to beat tomorrow in Race 5, a FM 76 Handicap at Kenilworth.

This daughter of Thomas Crown took five runs to leave the maiden ranks, but then ran on well to score at FM 80 level next time. She is in fact undefeated in two runs over 1600m at Kenilworth, although both were on the summer course with its longer run-in.

Rested for three months, she was then most unlucky not to complete the hat-trick over 1400m on this winter track.

She didn’t get the clearest of passages, but still quickened in an eye-catching manner to only go down to Omega Force by a head, and would surely have swept on by in another stride or two.

Omega Force looks a danger again, particularly with the Snaith-Fourie combination in such deadly form. On paper she is weighted to beat Hemero again due to that one’s 2.5kg claimer Sandile Mbhele being replaced by Bernard Fayd’Herbe, but will find it difficult to repeat.

Frontrunner Foxy Princess has won three of her last four making all, and wasn’t too harshly treated by the handicapper last time. She will be very dangerous if allowed too much leeway in the vanguard.

Adam Marcus-trained After Glow is another contender. Sparingly raced, she stayed on well in her post maiden outing and is likely to be even better over this trip.

Despite all that, if Hemero shows the same turn of foot as last time they are all likely to be running for second.

The Eachway value bet presents itself in Race 6, but means taking a view that Richard Fourie has chosen the ‘wrong’ Snaith runner.

Silver League is another late developer. This Silvano gelding took eight attempts before winning, but immediately followed up with a comfortable MR 74 win at Durbanville under Fourie.

He has now chosen to partner the other Snaith runner Green Archer, who has strong claims of his own, but there should be little between them, and Silver League is certain to be available at reasonable odds due to the riding arrangements.
