Round five of this year’s SuperGP Champions Trophy at the Aldo Scribante Circuit in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, on Saturday saw a national title clinched, plus brilliant spectacle in the various competing motorcycle categories.

The 2018 SA SuperGP title went to Michael White, after winning both of the day’s races on his Consortium Shipping Yamaha R1.

With just two races left to contest this season, White can no longer be caught in the championship chase. He had to work for the title, though.

Clint Seller, on King Price Bikefin Yamaha R1, took the lead in the day’s opening race, and proceeded to set the Aldo Scribante Circuit’s quickest ever motorcycle lap time at 59.862 seconds.

Then, trying to go even quicker, he lost the front end of his Yamaha at some 180km/h and dispatched the machine to its very last pit stop in the sky.

That left White to take a comfortable victory from David McFadden (RPM Centre Kawasaki ZX10R), Arushen Moodley (Dynamic Express Yamaha R1), Daryn Upton (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR 1000), and Gavin Upton (Turn Skill Engineering Yamaha R1).

White also won the next time out to clinch the 2018 title, followed to the line by Moodley, Daryn Upton and Gavin Upton.

Adolf Boshoff (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR600) took the opening Super600 race from Blaze Baker (King Price Bikefin Yamaha R6) by just one-thousandth of a second.

Brandon Staffen (AJH Cooling Kawasaki ZX6) took the final podium place, followed by Byron Bester (Hi-Tech Kawasaki ZX6), AJ Venter (TRD Motorcycles Yamaha R6), and Gareth Gehlig (Formula Autos Kawasaki ZX6). Boshoff took another close victory in race two, leading home Bester, Jared Schultz (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR600), Staffen and Gehlig.

Kewyn Snyman (The Mag Workshop KTM RC390) won all three of his heats on the day to move to the top of the Super300 title standings.

In the opening race, Snyman was chased to the finish line by Taric van der Merwe (Evolve Nutrition Yamaha R3) and Chase Hulscher (Uncle Andy Motol KTM RC390).

Dino Iozzo (King Price Bikefin Honda) and Van der Merwe filled out the podium in races two and three.

James Harper, riding Moto Uno Ducati, took the first Battle of the Twins victory from Robert Portman (RideFast Magazine KTM Super Duke) and Thomas Brown (Rehab Ducati).

Portman crashed out of race two, leaving Harper to win ahead of Brown and Alan Hulscher (ALDOR Steel Ducati).

Race three went to Brown, followed by Hulscher and Mick Landi on Rehab Ducati.

The SuperGP Champions Trophy will now make its way to Phakisa Raceway in the Free State for the final round on Saturday, September 22.
