-

- Sunsprite can continue his climb up the ladder today and give Richard Hughes a taste of Listed success as a trainer in the British Stallion Studs EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy 2018 Stakes at the North Yorkshire track.

This son of Kodiac has shown plenty of determination to land his last two starts by a short head after winning a shade cosier at Bath on his second outing.

He is obviously progressive, but just as importantly finds more when tackled for the lead in the closing stages. That is a good virtue for a racehorse and Sunsprite is expected to shine again.

Pettochside ran a tremendous race when second in the Dash at Epsom on Derby day and can go one better on his return to the Surrey venue in the China Southern Series Handicap.

John Bridger's evergreen nine-year-old only found Tanasoq 1.75-lengths too good in the valuable 20-runner sprint that day and deserves to bag this prize.

He had a two-month break after that effort and should be reaching his peak following two comeback runs, the latest coming in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood when he was not disgraced despite finishing down the pack.

All eyes will be on Willie John as he bids to take his unbeaten record to three in the Walter Nightingall Conditions Stakes.

A record purchase at the horses in training sales, he is rated highly at trainer Roger Varian's stable and holds an entry in the Qipco Champion Stakes.

This will be his stiffest test after promising performances at Yarmouth last season and Doncaster on his return earlier this month, but the future looked bright for the superblybred son of Dansili.

Poyle Vinnie ran well twice at Glorious Goodwood, including in the Stewards' Cup, and can get his head in front for trainer Ruth Carr in the Nottingham Forest News On nottinghampost.com Handicap at Southwell.

Ed Walker has made hay with Garbanzo, who has hit form with a vengeance with wins at Doncaster and Ffos Las.

This four-year-old gelding's progress has coincided with a step up in distance, as he can show again by taking 3200m in his stride and extending his winning run to three in the Sir Gordon Richards Handicap at Chepstow.-
