Wonderboom offical beaten up by dad, son

- Gopolang Chawane

A security manager was assaulted on Wednesday night at the Wonderboom Airport after he refused to allow two men to leave in a rented vehicle without a valid parking ticket.

CCTV footage of the altercation has emerged showing two white men initially engage in a verbal confrontation with a male security officer.

The officer, Morris Segapu, said he was severely wounded in the face and has taken leave from work following the attack.

He was attacked after one of his security personnel informed him that a motorist with a rented car wanted to exit without a parking ticket.

He responded to the call and spoke to Hans Potgieter and his son, who demanded to be let out even after he explained he couldn’t allow the vehicle to leave without a ticket.

That was about 6.45am, according to Segapu.

Potgieter and his son had apparently missed the cut-off time to return the vehicle and would have to return it the next day.

The argument started when Segapu attempted to take a photo of the vehicle’s licence plate, explaining he couldn’t let the vehicle out.

The two men allegedly told Segapu that he was wasting their time, with both stating they would moer him.

The security officer was shoved several times by the younger Potgieter.

He remained composed throughout the altercation, according to the video, while the men demanded that he open the boom.

Segapu was first assaulted by Hans. The officer ducked under a boom to avoid the fight but was pulled back by the son.

Segapu was then pulled and punched in the face numerous times by the son.

The video shows the son fleeing the scene.

Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk confirmed the attack and said Potgieter would appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court today.

“He was released on a warning to appear in court tomorrow,” Van Dyk said yesterday, adding that the pair also “started calling the victim racial names”.

A case of common assault and crimen injuria has been opened.

Hans Potgieter and his son both allegedly stated they would
