Mega clashes in SA and UK

- By Mark Gleeson

It’s a dream weekend for TAB soccer pool players as Wits take on Sundowns and Manchester City head to Anfield for a top-ofthe-table clash with Liverpool

Afamiliar feel returned to the Premier League standings after this last weekend’s matches with Manchester City going top and emphasising they will be tough to beat this season. They spent most of the last campaign at the head of the standings before going on to achieve a recordbreaking season, and with six wins from seven league outings this season have not let up.

They have the lead on goal difference from Liverpool, who they go to visit at Anfield on Sunday in an early season top-of-the-table clash dripping with delicious anticipation.

It is a tough week for both sides who have Champions League away trips in midweek. Liverpool are in Napoli while City have, possibly, an easier assignment at Hoffenheim in Germany.

It was in last season’s Champions League that Liverpool beat City both home and away to end Pep Guardiola’s dream of European success and the club is still struggling to turn domestic dominance into a significant return in continental club competition.

That is likely the only bitter memory of the campaign for Pep Guardiola and his squad, who head to Anfield in search of a measure of revenge.

For TAB soccer pool players it’s a dream match to bet on that should exemplify the positives of the much-watched Premier League. And it will be in direct contrast to the sensational theatre thrown up by the petulant ego of Jose Mourinho and the unnecessary behind-the-scenes drama at Manchester United.

They are already nine points adrift of both City and Liverpool with as many wins as defeats this season and on the cusp of crisis, fuelled by Mourinho’s penchant for picking fights that increasingly he looks likely to lose.

United host struggling Newcastle at home on Saturday and can get their campaign back on course, but the match will be against a background of Mourinho now being 1-6 to leave the club before Paul Pogba.

TAB weekend betting for punters also includes a full set of Premier Soccer League fixtures. Back-onsong Kaizer Chiefs host their match against Polokwane City in Durban, but are forced to play behind closed doors as punishment for poor past behaviour by their supporters.

But the most anticipated fixture will be the match between the last two champions and two other petulant coaches in Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane as Mamelodi Sundowns host Wits.
