Avoid identifying areas by race

-

Iwould like to applaud the community of Westbury for taking a stand, I have always advocated for people to take one. Now we all know that they do not want drugs and gangs in their area.

It means the market created by the selfsame community will come to a screeching halt and the gangs will not gain any members from this community. We cannot allow a minority to terrorise the majority.

I may not agree with the methods employed and the seeming confusion ensuing. I thought this was a war against gangs and drug lords and now it has boiled over to race. I strongly believe that as long as people still identify themselves as coloureds and do not identify with either the Khoi or San, then we still have a long way to go.

People born in the US who have never set foot in Africa identify themselves as African Americans, yet those born right here and even seen as the originals of the continent identify themselves as coloureds.

A major mind shift is needed urgently.

I know that a lot of people will not like this but I am only stating facts. As the community of Westbury, you do not need the police in this fight. By your own admission, the police have let you down.

I hope this piece starts an earnest conversation where truths will be spoken and solutions found. We need to stop identifying areas as either coloured or black areas. I thought the days of the group areas act were long gone. Zakes Nakedi, Ennerdale
