What is law on expiry date of data?
Many people thought data loss would stop after it was published in newspapers many months ago, writes Pat Hemphill.
Iwas led to believe that there was legislation now in place where all service providers could no longer implement expiry dates for data and airtime bought by their clients.
On losing 6GB of Telkom data on October 2 due to an expiry date, I enquired of the sales clerk at Telkom whether this law was in effect?
I was told that this rule had not yet been introduced into law.
This “no expiry” law was published in newspapers many months ago and many of us took it that it was now in place.
The article mentioned that putting an expiry date on service providers’ products was unconstitutional and against the rights of South African citizens.
Please, could you update your readers to what is happening in this regard.
There is no doubt in all our minds that there are government ministers as shareholders in these companies and that corruption and price-fixing is at play here.
Please could your investigative journalists dig and uncover the rot in these institutions.
Also, look into the dragging of feet to facilitate these companies’ continued stealing from the public.
Thanks for a great newspaper, and opening the door on maleficence in so many sectors of our government and private companies.
