Big names have it tough

Orlando Pirates, Highlands Park, Maritzburg United and Black Leopards remain the only sides in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge to have not tasted victory in the first five games of the season, while Cape Town City are continuing with their good run.

The Buccaneers have had it tough in the league, taking only one point after losing four games and getting one draw. They are currently second from bottom of the standings after losing 2-1 to Baroka FC this past weekend, while Maritzburg are rooted to the bottom.

The young Team of Choice suffered their fourth loss of the season when they went down 2-1 to Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

Wits coach Glen Salmon was delighted with the victory and says his side are continuing to improve game by game and says the experience of senior team players Daylon Claasen (above), Bantu Mzwakali and Ricardo Goss has eased the pressure on his young side.

“What is nice about today is that since from the first game, there has been a huge improvement. They are starting to put all the little things together.

“We can get to a certain stage and forget what to do and now there is another step added in. so it is very nice, the players are good to watch, the intensity is high and that is very important,” said Salmon.

“We had two outfield senior players, which helps to have a bit of composure and expertise, I am very happy with the points.

Today it would have been difficult because they had so many PSL players and on our side, we only had three, including the goalkeeper.”

Meanwhile, City are sitting serenely at the top of the Diski Challenge table after beating AmaZulu FC 2-1 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The Cape side are now on 12 points.
