Pitso’s selection poser

COACH: I WANT TO GIVE OTHER GUYS A CHANCE BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING

- Michaelson Gumede

Pitso Mosimane is undecided whether to make wholesale changes to his Mamelodi Sundowns starting line-up when they host Equatorial Guinea side Leoness Vegetarians tomorrow night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sundowns enjoy a 2-0 advantage ahead of the second leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary-round match.

“I am in two minds, so I have to sleep on it. Sometimes I want to give other guys a chance to play but at the same time I want to keep up the momentum because we have not been convincing in terms of winning four or five games in a row,” said Mosimane (right) after guiding the Brazilians to a 2-1 win over capital city neighbours SuperSport United in the first instalment of the Tshwane derby this season.

Mosimane revealed he was tempted to bring on Anthony Laffor against Matsatsantsa, but the aerial threat of Bongani Khumalo and James Keene forced him to go for a more cautious approach.

“I wanted to give Anthony Laffor a chance because he has not played for a long time but I had to play Wayne Arendse in the last five minutes because there was James Keene, Bongani Khumalo and all the boys that were coming from the flanks were going into the box so I had to seal it,” he said.

“Sometimes I want to give other guys a chance to play but somehow we have to keep it going,” Mosimane added.

Leoness would need to score three unanswered goals tomorrow if they are to reach the first round, but the former Bafana Bafana head coach does not see the likelihood of the West Africans netting three times against 2016 African Goalkeeper of the Year Denis Onyango, who is likely to start ahead of Reyaad Pieterse and Kennedy Mweene.

“I don’t think Leoness can score three goals against us, I am not saying they can’t score, but I think we have a goal here and they would need to score four against us,” said Mosimane.
