EFF leader Julius Malema, pictured, on Saturday released the party’s manifesto. Malema is happy to indulge in the food and drink of the colonialist – and then wants to come to parliament in overalls and pretend to be pro-poor. The VBS Bank scandal has dented the party’s efforts to portray itself as a voice of the poor ahead of elections in May 2019.

They claim to represent the poor, but underneath those red overalls are designer suits. This makes the case of the EFF being a “people’s party’’ a farce.

The EFF claims to represent the poor and to criticise capitalism for controlling the country’s wealth, but its leaders are the first to distort BEE in their favour and to go about systematically creating a small black elite, out of touch with ordinary South Africans, but happy to preach with moral bitterness from the nearest soap box.
