Home Ruler showed absolutely no interest in her barrier trial, but caught the eye in her debut effort, making up tremendous ground to lose by a rapidly diminishing 1.80 lengths.
Although Dennis Drier’s charge showed further improvement in her follow-up when finishing a close-up third behind Extravargant over this course and distance, she was unfortunately restless and slow out the gates, proving that she was beaten by inexperience more than anything.
She easily has the most encouraging form in the field so a loss is highly unlikely. Interestingly, Amex, whom Marcus rides in Race 3, a FM Maiden Plate over 1600m, finished ahead of Home Ruler in their latest encounter.
Therefore, should the latter win Race 2 it will strengthen Amex’s case.
Nathan Kotzen’s charge seems to have found her niche over the 1200m trip having finished second in two consecutive starts.
