So Ramaphosa wants to clean up the country. He’s going to need plenty of Handy Andy or Vim. Krystal Ball
Parliamentarians looked very smart in their suits and ties with some of the women wearing colourful, traditional African outfits. Then you see the red overalls. How can anyone take the EFF seriously? Mike B
Ramaphosa says: “We must. We should. We need to.” Nothing he says is commitment. All hot air. A pathetic Sona. Michael Floyd
I find it ironic that as the president begins Sona an ad comes up telling you to increase your budget for the year with the national lottery! Does that mean don’t waste your time with this president, rather gamble, it’s more reliable? Caron
Watching Sona on TV leads me to ask where is Jacob Zuma? Has he perhaps gone to Dubai? Tom Lambe
You report that Ramaphosa outsmarted Malema and his plan to disrupt the Sona. The reality is far more chilling. Having discovered substantial common ground (land reform etc) it’s clear the EFF and ANC will align after the elections. In fact, there may well not be an EFF, which will be absorbed into the ANC. Got nothing to do with “outsmarting”. Per Ardua
Who paid for the glitz and glamour? Anonymouse
With the exceedingly high unemployment rate and the increase in people living below the breadline, I find the excessive opulence at Sona sickening. Tone it down. Gordon
The Sona, despite criticism, was positive and had many elements of success, if implemented carefully. It’s good to hear that education will be prioritised and that government will be reconfigured to save money. The news that the NPA and the Hawks will develop teeth is also welcome news. The ANC will go above 60% at the upcoming elections. Simphiwe
Amazing how well Sona went off! Lucky the troublemaker didn’t gatecrash! Milton
The president said that we need to keep abreast with modern digital technology. Has he discussed this with the unions yet? All new technology could mean machines replacing man. In Africa, new technology is dreaded. Ask the Airports Company if they would welcome automatic check-in points as they do in London, etc. This technology has been around for several years but you will never see it in Africa. Is it reality? George
