Hunt: Show me some fight

Bidvest Wits will be looking for an immediate response this evening as they travel to play Black Leopards in the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup, following a first away league defeat of the season at Highlands Park on Saturday.

Wits have lost just twice away, also going down at Baroka FC in the Telkom Knockout.

“Hopefully we can bounce back, though it is not easy (at Leopards),” said Wits coach Gavin Hunt (above) yesterday.

His side won 1-0 at Leopards in the Absa Premiership on December 1, with Gabadinho Mhango, an injury doubt for today’s match, scoring after just nine minutes.

“You have got to look forward to it, we won there in the league, so why not again?” said Hunt.

Leopards have hit a tough patch after a fine run saw Dylan Kerr and and Mwape Musonda win Absa Premiership Coach and Player of the Month respectively.

Lidoda Duvha have lost their last two league games 3-0, at Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns, but are unbeaten at home since that loss to Wits.

Despite the loss to the Lions of the North, Wits are still top of the league, though Mamelodi Sundowns are just three points behind with three games in hand.

Downs have been given a decent amount of leg-room by the Premier Soccer League to play their Caf Champions League group matches, and Hunt does not think this is entirely fair.

“When we played Champions League, we had played the same amount of league games,” he said.

“We played Al Ahly, then we had to play on a Wednesday in East London. The league has helped Sundowns and hopefully if we get in next time they will also help us.”
