The Citizen (Gauteng)

50/1 Super Rugby chance

- Brent Graham

Super Rugby is a marathon and when things are a little tight financially you have to be selective with long term bets. I want to bet on individual matches and need to ensure I keep some of my bankroll back.

One of the markets that excite me is the top try scorer. It is wide open with the favourite, George Bridge from the Crusaders, priced at 11/1. This is the sort of market where you can put a few rand down.

The obvious choice would be a winger or perhaps a fullback from one of the favoured teams but you have to take into account that international players may be rested with the World Cup in mind.

The rolling maul is a serious weapon and that means plenty of hookers score tries after penalty kicks into the corner. If you fancy Malcolm Marx to be the bus conductor behind a rampant Lions pack, you can get 25/1 on him.

My selection is a juicy but speculative 50/1 and is a proven try scorer in 7’s rugby. Seabelo Senatla made his name with the Blitzboks and will try to establish himself in the Stormers side. He is not a guaranteed starter but even as a substitute I can see him picking up a few tries. At the price I don’t have to invest much to have potential for a large profit.

Another way to get a long term interest is to join Super Bru. We have R5 000 betting voucher prizes in the World Sports Betting League and those who put R500 in, join my pool “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is”

I am today at 9pm live on the YouTube show The Handicap, where I will be talking Week 1 betting with some of the shrewdest punters in the country. Hold thumbs that Eskom don’t have other ideas.

Enjoy the tournament and remember bet with your head and not your heart.
