The Nedbank Cup doesn’t only come with the bragging rights of lifting a trophy at the end, but an opportunity to play continental football, which is what National First Division side TS Galaxy is aiming for when they meet up with fellow NFD side Jomo Cosmos in the last-16 at the Makhulong Stadium tomorrow.

Galaxy leftback Terrence Mashego (right), knows there is still a long way to go, but he is confident that the team will do well against Cosmos, and are highly motivated to see their dreams materialise with the winners for the Ke Yona Cup earning a spot in the Caf Confederation Cup.

“We are looking at competing in Africa. Playing continental football would be a dream come true for all of us, and we are certain we can achieve it,” said Mashego during a press conference at the PSL headquarters in Parktown earlier this week.

“We know there are still a lot of games to play before we even get to the final, but it will be a huge achievement for the team if we win the cup and play in Africa.”

Galaxy, who are in their first season in the NFD have shown much confidence with Mashego’s statements. The side is led by former Chippa United coach Dan Malesela who took over the head coach role last year in September, replacing Vusi Mkhatshwa.

Mashego said Malesela has improved their game at the club.

“He is a great coach who makes his players believe in themselves. He is a great motivator and we work very well under him. That is why we are so confident and we always strive to do well.”

The Mpumalanga side made it to the last-16 after beating Umvoti 3-1, while Cosmos edged Baroka FC 1-0.
