Kennedy looks to Do Or Dare at Scottsville
FAVOURED: KANNEMEYER-TRAINED GELDING IS WEIGHTED TO WIN
Marsanne to regain winning form.
Not only has jockey Warren Kennedy taken over Muzi Yeni’s spot atop the national jockeys’ championship log, he has also – at the time of writing – drifted seven wins clear of his rival.
If Kennedy’s book of rides at Scottsville on Sunday are any sort of indication, then he is almost guaranteed to extend his lead, especially when Do Or Dare lines up in Race 9, a 1600m Maiden Plate.
This Dean Kannemeyertrained gelding has finished third in his last two performances, including at this venue in his penultimate start.
He ran a cracker in his latest appearance when producing a smashing turn of foot under Keagan de Melo to finish a rapidly diminishing 0.60 lengths behind Keiko over this distance at Greyville’s Polytrack.
Do Or Dare tops the bestweighted column and considering he is perfectly drawn at No 1 as opposed to his biggest danger, Mighty Smart’s worst draw of all, the chances of Kennedy’s mount losing are very slim.
If your budget permits, add in Mighty Smart. This gelding has finished close-up second in his last two efforts.
In his defence, an appalling draw forced jockey Sean Veale to drop him out. But once Mighty Smart saw daylight he flew home and was narrowly beaten.
For the Quartet float Do Or Dare and Mighty Smart with King Julian, Manic Brawling, Russian Roulette, Honest Illusion, Straight Up and Tiger Tank.
Marsanne was the unluckiest of losers when denied the opportunity to secure a third consecutive success last time.
Her jockey’s saddle unfortunately slipped in running and this resulted in her hanging in badly over the last 100m, which essentially cost her the race.
“She is definitely above average,” commented jockey Craig Zackey of the filly. “She is always unsound, and we can never really get her at peak fitness but (she wins) that just shows you her class.”
