STRIKER SET TO SHOW PIRATES’ FANS WHAT THEY LOST

-

them, departing for SuperSport in the last transfer window along with Kuda Mahachi.

As if released from the shackles, he has been in excellent form in the MTN8 with three goals in as many matches so far to head the goal-scorers’ charts and potentially claim a trophy, something Pirates have not done since 2014.

The 32-year-old is a big unit and while never a prolific scorer, his big frame has been used as a battering ram up front in a targetman role.

He began his career with National First Division Durban Stars in the 2008-09 season and did enough to catch the eye of Lamontville Golden Arrows.

He spent four seasons with Abafana Bes’thende, netting 13 league goals in that time, before winning a move to Pirates in 2013. To say that he was in and out of the side at Pirates is an understatement. In his six seasons there he only got into

double-figures in terms of league starts twice and never reached more than 13.

But it was really his role in helping the team to the final of the 2015 African Confederation Cup, in which he showed his worth with some superb displays as he harassed opposition defences.

It was clear to see that the longer his stay at Pirates went on, the more the spark went out of his game, leading him to storm off the field in a victory over Black Leopards in August 2018 that really signalled the end of his time with the team.

But it is also a sign of his quality that when it became clear he would leave Pirates, there was something of a scrum over his services, with SuperSport eventually signing him.

"I am happy with the way SuperSport plays and it suits my strength,” he told reporters. "The system here will allow me to score goals because I am in the box.

"There are a lot of differences because Pirates play a lot of short passes and here it's not like that, we play diagonal balls. That is what I am used to and as a striker I must always be in the box to finish."
