Oval ball is king this weekend

-

punters must get on quickly, as today’s pool closes at 11:45.

FRIDAY POOL The first match is the clash between the Springboks and Italy in the World Cup.

A lot has been said about this match, with Bok coach Rassie Erasmus seeing it as a banana peel. He therefore takes the Italians very seriously.

However, it should be a rather easy victory for the Boks and they should cruise home by 13 or more.

Match 2 sees Glasgow Warriors host Scarlets in the English Premiership.

A big effort is needed from Glasgow Warriors on their home ground to pick themselves up after their drubbling against the Cheetahs.

Scarlets travel full of confidence after beating Connacht 1810 over the weekend.

Betting against the home team seems the logical choice.

Leinster face Ospreys Match 3.

Leinster's victory of 32-27 against Benneton was not faultless, in but they should enjoy another victory when they host Ospreys. The home team is expected to minimize mistakes and to strengthen their position on the log.

Then it’s Worcester Warriors against Exeter Chiefs in Match 4 – two losing sides taking each other on.

Worcester Warriors were beaten 36-28 by Bath over the weekend, while Exeter Chiefs were completely outplayed 27-7 against Leicester Tigers.

It could be a close game with the home team taking the field slight favourites.

Match 5 is the World Cup encounter between England and Argentina.

England should not stutter against the Pumas.

SATURDAY POOL The pool opener is the World Cup match between Japan and Samoa.

With Japan on a high after beating Ireland in a thriller over the weekend, there is no way Samoa will be able to stop them.

In Match 2 Clermont Auvergne go up against Montpellier in the French Top 14 series.

Clermont scored an easy 3218 victory against Stade Francais over the weekend, while Montpellier had to settle for a 17-all draw against Bordeaux Begles, who also have a powerfull side.

Home ground advantage should see Clermont through, but a tough battle is on the cards

The Cheetahs host Ulster in Match 3.

The Cheetahs are on a roll with an outstanding 48-14 victory against last year's beaten finalist Glasgow Warriors.

Match 4 sees Cardiff Blues host Edinburgh.

Fresh from a 31-27 away win over the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth, the Cardiff Blues will be hard to beat on their home ground.

Fullback Matthew Morgan was the kingpin against the Kings with a polished performance and he could also frustrate Edinburgh with his skills at fullback.

In Match 5 Lyon host Bordeaux Begles. It is a game that can go both ways, but Lyon’s home ground advantage could be the deciding factor. The game should go down to the wire.
