Cheyne is In A Perfect World

- Brendan Gaillard

The Alan Greeff-trained In A Perfect World blotted his very good record over this course and distance, the Fairview Polytrack 1600m, last time out when well beaten but was not striding out that day and could be the right one in Race 6, a MR 88 Handicap today.

This Ideal World gelding had scored twice over this track and trip this year and is one of those deceptive types who just do enough needed to win and so continues to fool the handicapper.

Jockey Greg Cheyne has been his regular rider and knows how to get the best out of him.

It is not often in South Africa that trainers run maidens in open company before they win a race but Yvette Bremner did that with the gelding Nicalex last month. He did not run badly and was only 3.05 lengths behind Strong 'N Brave, so going back to Maiden company and running in a weak field Nicalex could prove to be a bit better than the rivals he meets in Race 2.

Trainer Sharon Kotzen could provide us with some value bets at this meeting with Hollywood Belle in Race 4 and Easy By Far in Race 8 worth some Eachway wagers.

Hollywood Belle won nicely over Kenilworth 1000m in June beating Optimum and may not have liked the soft going in her last two starts. A wide draw is against this Var mare but it may just force her rider to go for it from the jump.

Another Kotzen runner, Var filly Easybyfar, has tried a range of distances so far but it seems the 1600m of her win last time out suited her and now that she has learnt how to win she can follow up and score again.
