Coach not convinced of title credentials

Ajax Cape Town may be second in the GladAfrica Championship with just two points separating them from early surprise leaders JDR Stars, but coach Andries Ulderlink is not entirely convinced his team can challenge for the title.

Ulderlinks guided the Urban Warriors to a nervy win against new boys Steenberg United on Friday, with Abednego Mosiatlhaga (pictured) scoring twice. After seven matches, Ajax have now collected 13 points.

“We played well in patches. In the second half I saw about 20 to 25 minutes where we were really good,” said Ulderlink.

“In the first half we also had a good spell but after scoring we eased off and you could say we were waiting for them to score because we allowed them to come at us.”

He was happy with Mosiathlaga’s brace, saying it would go a long way in helping his confidence as he had been trying his best to get on to the scoresheet.

Jomo Cosmos, meanwhile registered their first win of the season on Sunday as Clint Fredericks scored the winner at Giyani Stadium, handing Cape Umoya United only their second defeat of the campaign. The win however did little to help Ezenkosi out of the bottom of the standings.

They are now on six points after the same number of games but sit uncomfortably in 11th place – three points separating them from bottom side Royal Eagles.

JDR gave a brave performance and came from behind to earn a 3-2 win over Tshwane rivals University of Pretoria at Soshanguve Giants Stadium on Saturday.

The Hammer Boys are proving to be the surprise team of the season having taken 15 points in seven games which sees them sitting on top of the league.
