‘We must sing from same hymn sheet’

Orlando Pirates midfield maestro Xola Mlambo has called for unity in the Buccaneers camp if they are to change the fortunes of the club.

The Buccaneers have looked dangerous in attack lately, scoring plenty of goals, but they have also conceded a lot of goals, their last two games ending in a 4-3 defeat by Bidvest Wits and a 3-3 draw with Cape Town City.

However, Mlambo says they are working really hard to get things right going forward with a Telkom Knockout last-16 fixture coming up against Stellenbosch FC on October 19 at Orlando Stadium.

“We have to stand together and we have to work as a team, we have to motivate each other and lift each other up. I mean, for a team to do well all team members have to be singing the same tune,” said the Soweto-born midfielder.

“It’s quite puzzling that we haven’t had the results we wished for. We have been working very hard and scoring goals, but lady luck has not been on our side ... we can’t run away from the situation, we have to face it. We will work very hard to turn the situation around.”

Mlambo went to add that being knocked out of the Caf Champions League, as well as the MTN8, was really hard for them to take, but they have to let bygones be bygones and turned their focus to what is coming ahead so they can hopefully achieve the results they want.

Pirates have won just one match in all competitions since Rulani Mokwena took over as head coach in mid-August.

“It’s sad, it’s a difficult time as Orlando Pirates to be knocked out of the Caf Champions League and to be knocked out early in the MTN8, it’s difficult but we have to take it. We can’t focus on past results or else they will affect the upcoming results,” said Mlambo.
