Agriculture, environment MEC says goodbye as Mosupye takes over.

Gauteng premier David Makhura has finally bowed to pressure from the ANC leadership in Luthuli House and the president of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), Bathabile Dlamini, to reshuffle his provincial cabinet on gender grounds.

Makhura removed his economic development, agriculture and environment MEC, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, and replaced him with Morakane Mosupye, who has served as councillor in Tshwane and MMC for health and social development.

The ANC national executive committee (NEC) announced that for gender balance purposes in provinces where premiers are male, at least 60% of the executive had to be female.

Mosupye is currently a member of the provincial executive

“I am confident that Ms Mosupye will build on the solid foundation laid by Dr Ramokgopa towards the realisation of our vision of growing the economy of our province,” Makhura said.

Mosupye expressed confidence in her own ability to execute her tasks with excellence and dedication, as the newly appointed MEC.

Ramokgopa conveyed his gratitude for the honour of having served the people of Gauteng and for the premier to have entrusted him with the responsibility of growing the regional economy.

“It has been a great pleasure to serve the people of Gauteng and I have no doubt that the sixth administration will take the province forward by remaining focused on the task at hand of growing an inclusive and transformed economy that creates jobs for the unemployed,” Ramokgopa said. –

I am confident she will build on the solid foundation laid by Dr Ramokgopa and grow the economy.
